People we've helped - Daniel

Lance Corporal Daniel Twiddy

Daniel Twiddy, in ServiceAll Daniel ever wanted to do was join the Army. He joined up in 1999 when he was 18 and in 2003 went to serve in Southern Iraq.

After four days of heavy fighting, his tank took a direct hit, killing two crew members outright. Daniel lost consciousness, suffered appalling burns and received severe shrapnel wounds to his face. His left eardrum was perforated leaving him permanently deaf in one ear.

So far, Daniel has had 20 intensive skin grafts to help his recovery, although shrapnel still remains in his face. As well as the physical injuries, he has to endure flash backs to that dreadful day in Basra.

Daniel Twiddy in 2006Not surprisingly, Daniel found life outside the Army tough. It was a struggle to pay for the moisturising treatment for his skin grafts. We gave him the funding which helped to boost his morale. We also  assisted Daniel with his claim for a War Disablement Pension.

We’re still in touch with Daniel who is now rebuilding his life and is now a fully trained plasterer with a business that's growing. We will always be here for him, whenever he needs us.
